Birgit Doesborg, Goldsmith & Silversmith

Birgit Doesborg (Venlo, 1967), nicknamed "Does" graduated as gold- and silversmith in 1992 at the MTS Vakschool Schoonhoven.

From her studio in 's-Hertogenbosch she designs jewelry and ornamental objects in her own style which is heavily influenced by natural forms such as the year rings of a tree and layers of rock.

From October 2010 legitimate member of the Bossche gilde voor goudsmeden.

From 2011 legitimate member of the Mokume-gane artist.eu.

Japanese forging technique

As one of the few goldsmith she practices the Japanese forging technique Mokume-gane.In this ancient technique layers of metal are forged under immense pressure and heat. This result in unique jewels with organic shapes. See the Mokume-gane rings for examples of such jewels.

Similar organic shapes effects can be accomplished with clay and felt results in clay and felt jewelry.

Silver-smithing and Restoration metal

Besides art work she practice large forging and soldering objects. This technique is called Silversmithing. Goldsmithing ore Silversmithing says nothing about the metal which is used but says something about the technique. Silversmithing is an old forging process were a large hammer and anvil used and forged utensils such as bowls, cups, vases, etc. Nowadays this is called Silver Art. Stainless steel

Since 2001 Birgit also practices welding (TIG stainless steel welding) to create ornamental objects and jewelry. Her fascination for the welding process inspires her to design jewelry such as buckles and objects of stainless steel.

Teacher and welder
